Meg broke her Arm

>> Friday, July 31, 2009

Meg, Patrick, Laura & Craig were at ski school last week.  On the Friday, they set out a slalom course and everyone gets split into teams for races.  Mo and I were there to see how they had progressed.  You were supposed to have silly hair and you could dress up if you wanted (that is why Patrick is in a Cheerleader’s outfit!!)  DSC_6753 DSC_6756

Follow the Progress of Fiona & Gerry’s Baby

Not sure how accurate this is but it is a bit of fun.  Click on the “What’s Up” button and it tells you some info about the development.

Good News from Fiona & Gerry

Got this email from Fiona & Gerry yesterday.  Great news!!

As you may already know I had my first baby scan this morning! What you may not know is we got a wee shock to discover I'm having twins!!!! Still can't quite believe it!  Attached are some of the pics we got. One baby was very active jumping about trying to annoy its brother or sister (think that one takes after Gerry) the other twin was a lot calmer and seemed to be enjoying a wee nap so think that one is taking after me!! Both appeared healthy with strong heartbeats and are just over 7cm! My official due date is 26/1/10 but think they normally induce 2-3 weeks early when its twins!

Hope you are all well! It was great catching up in Spain (think it'll definitely be our last holiday in a while) we had a ball!

Keep you updated on the baby news,

Lots of love,
Fiona & Gerry

Milarrochy Bay

>> Wednesday, July 22, 2009

Mikie came over tonight and picked up the kids.  They are going to his for a sleepover.  Hopefully, if the weather is any good tomorrow he is taken them up the burn with a disposable BBQ and a bag of burgers!

Mo was going over to see her friend who has just had a baby and I was going out with the camera club.  This was my first outing since before the holidays.  Only 6 of us out.  We headed up to Milarrochy Bay, which is past Drymen on the way to Rowardennan.  On the way up it was looking good, but when we arrived it got very cloudy and the light just disappeared.  Didn’t get much, but still enjoyable, and the scenery is fantastic.

Mikie’s House for Dinner

>> Monday, July 20, 2009

Megan and Patrick were through in Edinburgh at David & Caroline’s for the weekend as it was Jamie’s birthday party on Sunday at M&D’s in Strathclyde Park.  I invited us all to Mikie’s for dinner, since we were going through to pick the kids up.  Dad, Fiona & Gerry came round too (Mum is in Madrid visiting Ann).

We spent the afternoon watching the tour and the golf before Mikie made a Chicken dish with rice and goats cheese salad, which tasted great.  Dad brought round pudding.  I felt as fat as a barrel.

I checked the hospice website to see if there was any write up on the 10k – they have used my YouTube video - I had sent an email to the woman responsible for marketing and publicity after the photo shoot with a link to my blog entry - and she decided to use it.  Here is the link -http://www.ppwh.org.uk/index.cfm/page/135/news/216/

Photowalk 2009

>> Saturday, July 18, 2009

It was the worldwide photowalk today.  There were about 30 of us meeting at the Art Galleries.  There were over 30,000 people participating in over 900 locations throughout the world.

It was great – Mikie was at the carpark when I arrived and at 10 we headed from the car park along to Byres Rd.  Up Byres Rd, through Ashton Lane to the University and back to the Art Gallery.  We all went in for lunch in the cafe, before some of us had a walk around the museum.

I didn’t get any decent images, but I really enjoyed my day.  I need to pick 1 or 2 to submit to the Photowalk website – I am thinking about the Buckfast bottle and maybe the University Chemistry Department sign or the Quadrangle – let me know (if you can be bothered!!)

Denia 2009 Day #14 – Flight Home

>> Saturday, July 11, 2009

We had the alarm set to get up, showered, last minute tidy up and out by 10.  The villa had been ideal – great pool and garden and inside was just what we needed.

We were planning to go to McDonalds on the road out of Denia for breakfast, but it didn’t open until 11:30, so we just headed down to the airport.  We got there with loads of time, checked the cars back in and checked the cases through.  We were so early - there was no queues.  We went through security and went and got our breakfast – Burger King burgers!!

We had turns at having a walk about the shops or having coffee, and before we really knew it it was time to board.  The flight home was straight forward and Eddie and Clare (with Cara) were there to meet us and take us home.

The holiday was magic – we thoroughly enjoyed it.  The Wedding was great and it was fantastic to see all the family.  There were some great get togethers – up at our villa, the paella and the beach.  Just chilling and catching up – great.

Cannot wait to see everyone again – where is it going to be?  Could it be Andrew’s wedding or Shaun’s.  Watch this space.

Denia 2009 Day #13 – Last day, walk and Dinner

>> Friday, July 10, 2009

It was still a little overcast this morning when we got up, but it wasn’t raining.  I sat at the pool and read my book- what a great book - “The Book Thief” by Markus Zusak.  Best book I have read for a very long time – very recommended.  It is one of those books that you don’t want it to finish.  I must admit to having a tear in my eye at the end – I don’t think I have ever started greetin before reading a book.

Michael and Patrick took the car up the mountain a bit and went for a walk.  They were away for ages and they ended up on a path above the house.  They phoned so we could wave things in the air so they could get their bearings.

After lunch the sun came back out and it was roasting.  We had our last mess about in the pool of the holiday …

Eileen, Toya and the kids came up to say bye.  We invited them out for dinner and arranged to see them later on in Denia. DSC_6246 DSC_6234 DSC_6235 DSC_6242

We waved them away – the kids had a birthday part to go to.  We were all walking back in and I stopped at the edge of the pool.  Mo decided to try and push me in, I grabbed her hand to pull her in, but she managed to wriggle out of my grip, but fell backwards off a wall and right onto her backside.  I thought she had broken her back or her hip.  She was in agony.  We got her up and put some ice on it.  She was able to get ready for dinner, but she was not very comfortable.

We all got ready and went out to meet the Spanish Brawleys.  We ended up at the restaurant at the church.  Great dinner.  Patrick and Jorge are eating Kid chops (baby goat).DSC_6252 DSC_6255 DSC_6257 DSC_6258 DSC_6259 DSC_6260

We said cheerio to everyone and headed for the car and home for the last time.

Good day – apart from Mo falling.  17th July Update – her backside is still sore, but not as bad as it was.  Bothers her when getting in and out of a seat.

Denia 2009 Day #12 – Rain, Drinking Games, 2 Spews and Some Pizza

>> Thursday, July 09, 2009

Woke up this morning to torrential rain.  After breakfast we settled down to watch some Jurassic Park movies.  Mo and Carolyn started packing the cases.DSC_5970 DSC_5951 DSC_5952 DSC_5955

Once the film was over I went to the fridge and made the comment that we should start trying to finish off all the food and drink.  As tends to happen whenever Mikie is involved it was decided on a drinking game.  We had a few 8 litre bottles still to be used.  It was decided that we (Mikie, Me, Meg and Pat) would drink it all and last to go to the toilet was the winner.

We lined up the first drink – Mikie and myself had glasses that were about double the size of the kids, and downed them, and lined up the next.  This went on a further 5 times within the next 25 mins.  Pat had about an inch of water left in his 5th glass when he said that he was quitting.  There was only one glass each left in the 8l bottle so we encouraged him to finish it off.  He tried to knock it back – and had a wee spew – we shouted for him to get to the toilet.  He ran to the bathroom, with a torrent of water coming out of his mouth!!  What a laugh!!  I was laughing while I was mopping up.

DSC_5007DSC_5011DSC_5965DSC_5969DSC_5967DSC_5016DSC_5018DSC_5010DSC_5022

It was so funny – we worked it out that Mikie and I drank nearly 3l and the kids just under 1.5l.  This was in just under 25 minutes.  Some laugh.  I sneaked to the toilet about 1 hour later while I was making the lunch.  Michael was pacing the floor for another 20mins.

After lunch the rain went off and we had a laze around.

DSC_5986 DSC_5993 DSC_5999 DSC_6000 DSC_6023 DSC_6003

Michael, Ella and I went for a run in the car – we ended up going across to Javea and then going inland.  We ended up in the middle of nowhere, and because of the heavy rain, there was a great smell in the air and the vegetation seemed to be soaking up all the moisture and getting greener by the minute.  On the way back, coming over the windy road from Javea, Ella complained of feeling sick.  There is nowhere to stop on the road and there was no bags – I took Mikie’s hat off his head and threw it into the back, where Ella filled it to the brim with sick!!  Excellent.  DSC_6008-EditDSC_6016Carolyn was taking us out for dinner tonight – so we got showered and changed and headed down to the Marina.  We went to the pizza place we had gone to the previous week.  It was great – picked a load of different pizzas and just all shared.  Had a nice coffee – bombon.  Cheers Carolyn.DSC_6028 DSC_6033 DSC_6036 DSC_6038 DSC_6045 DSC_6048 DSC_6050 DSC_6057 DSC_6063 DSC_6069 DSC_6072 DSC_6086

After dinner we got a wee speed boat ferry across the port to where the black market is.  Had a wee look around the stalls and Ella had a shot on the swings at the park, before walking back to the car and heading home.

Even when it is raining you can have great fun in Denia – all you need is 8l of water and a 8 year old nut job!!
